This starts with a 1965 album by Charlie Walker called Close All The Honky Tonks - a honky tonk is just a bar that plays popular dance music at the time -
She’s in some honky tonk tonight I know,
dancing where the music’s loud and lights are low
in a crowded bar she like’s to hang around,
and as long as there’s a honky tonk she’ll never settle down.
Close all the honky tonks, lock all the doors,
Don’t let the one I love go there anymore,
Close all the honky tonks, throw away the key,
Then maybe the one I love will come back to me.
I love this idea of closing all the bars and maybe your partner will come back to you. It’s like something Nathan Fielder, if you’ve ever seen any of his shows, would come up with!
